1) What is the message of this video?
2) How can we prepare students for state tests and help them become intelligent happy people?
3) Think about your unit and your assessment- are you preparing your students to fill in bubbles or are you helping them become better thinkers?
I believe the video is showing how schools teach everything just for the tests at the end of the year. Jimmy is at first able to choose what he wants quickly. Once he gets to school, he is taught an abundance of information that's going to be on the test. So once he is bombed with all of these subjects, he starts to see how the test is affecting his choice making skills.
ReplyDeleteWell it is hard to get students ready for everything on the state tests if you want every student to be efficient in every subject area. The only thing we can do as educators is teach each area to the best of our ability and keep revisiting the areas as the school year moves on. Review.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of my unit, I want the students to be great thinkers, not just guessing on the subject. Geometry can be tough for a lot of students. What educators have to do is find a way in which each child can understand what is going on.
1. The message is that students have to take in all sort of information in an average day. When you tell them that they are going to have a test and that they must get it right, test anxiety sets in.
ReplyDelete2. We can give students the information they need in formats other than question and answer. Things such as games to help them remember the information.
3. I believe that my blog is helping the students to become better thinkers. They have an opportunity to not only read about the information but also to see, touch, and feel the things they will be learning.
I believe that its telling me that there is lots of information shoved in a childs brain in an average day. The child gets overwhelmed with the information therefore its making the child confused. The child no longer has the self esteem he once had and doesnt think that he can do the work.
ReplyDeleteI believe hands on activities are a good way to teach children, also not being in such big groups too.
Well my post aint done and im not sure if it would be helpful....
I think the message of the video is how our kids feel, all theses things get jammed into there heads in hopes that the test scores improve. Like Ryan said, a teacher would have to teach to the best of their ability, and review through out the year.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that the message of the video addresses feelings, and it does bring confusion to students brains. I believe as teachers teaching at the level of the students task will improve ability and participation on a on-going basis.
ReplyDeleteI think it's telling them that kids need to be more effective thinkers not just by throwing test's in their face, and hoe frustraten the teachers and even parents can be.Probably do a survey of different ways kids like to learn and go from there.I am not quit sure if i am maken them become better thinkers but i have a good idea that i am its a lot of hands on activities.
ReplyDeleteThis video shows us that some schools teach for the test. I feel that some students really don't like test. So they start to guess on the test and start making designs on the answer form. There is a lot of information that students need to know by the end of the year test. Some teachers teach to the test and some teach the best they can trying to cover everything they can by the end of the year test.
